Jean Yule

Jean YuleI am Jean Bice Yule.

Born in 1939, I am a life long resident of Fort Collins.  I love this community and have never wished to live elsewhere.  I am a Fort Collins High School graduate (1957) and CSU graduate (1961).  With my husband, John, I have raised four children and we are blessed with seven grandchildren - ages 2 year - 18 years.

In the fall of 2000 at age 60 my annual mammogram disclosed an early stage breast cancer -- the news you don't want to hear and the club you don't want to join.  And yet I can only be grateful:

1. for the early diagnosis
2. for such caring and competent medical professionals
3. for the successful treatment (lumpectomy, radiation)
4. for the love and support of family and friends

I am also grateful for the eye-opening wakeup call to take nothing and no-one for granted and to live each day to the fullest.  I am grateful to be a survivor.

I feel privileged to be part of this celebration and in the company of these strong and courageous women.

At 69 years, I revel in the elder generation role in our three generation family.  I love the out-of-doors, and confess to a life-long love affair with our Rocky Mountains.  I am an avid reader, ultra-novice acrylic paint dabbler, geranium and aloe grower (if you need Aloe, I'm your source).

Classroom teachers are my heroes -- I am passionate about public education and am a long time supporter of Poudre School District.   A more recent focus has been the plight of single moms -- the availability, accessibility and affordability of quality day care, which is basic to every and any other endeavor.

I have watched "my town" grow, expand and even explode -- some of it regrettable, but most of it exciting and commendable.  I am crazy about Old Town, downtown, where I can find every thing I need.

Who can argue?  I am one lucky lady!
