I am a 50 year old woman, I have lived in Boulder since 1984. I have
a deep connection with the earth, and go out walking every day. Just
before my surgery happened last November, I started doing freelance work
as a copy editor. I enjoy this work, and I have been very excited about
getting into it. I am looking forward to starting up with editing once
again. I also have done some work as a caregiver for the elderly in
their homes.
The other thing that I LOVE to do is sing! And write songs. Mostly songs
to make you laugh. Tongue in cheek, snarky. A dream I have is to pitch
one of my songs to someone really cool, like KD Lang or Christine Lavin.
Music is my life.
I am the lead singer in a little band called Sister Merry Harmony. When
I am done recovering, we will give a Thank You concert. You are all
invited!*
I also sing jazz with a group called the 12th Street Jazz Quartet, and
sing in the alto section of a wonderful community gospel choir, Gospel
Voices of Boulder. In my spare time I love to go to jam sessions. Can't
get enough of that music!
I am recovering from breast cancer surgery and reconstructive surgery.
The reconstructive surgery did not go well, and resulted in a large
wound. I have been recovering from that surgery since November 2007, and
it will take at least another two months to heal. But the cancer is
gone!
So many lovely people have helped me through this process. I think that
the greatest lesson I have learned from my experience with cancer is
gratitude. It keeps me going. I am working on a list entitled "1001
Reasons to Live," and I am up to about 750 reasons. It reminds me to go
about my day seeing everything as a reason to be grateful. I recommend
it! It's really not as hard as you might think, and you start noticing
the beautiful little things. It will lift you up.
Thanks to all of you for your generosity!
Kate Ingmundson
