We are Coloradans, friends, colleagues and family of breast cancer survivors.
Our goal is to create a day of celebration for their presence in our lives and
community.
We invite you as a member of our Colorado community to participate in a
life-affirming day of activities and entertainment. It is an opportunity to
acknowledge individual survivors and their support systems. All proceeds from
the Fun Fund will be will be distributed to the 2008 celebrated survivors.
Who are the Survivors?
The
2008 recognized survivors are members of our local community. They are women in
remission or currently in treatment for breast cancer. These individuals
contribute to the education of our children, work at Poudre Valley Hospital,
teach at Colorado State University and contribute to the welfare of our town in
countless ways. They manage and own local businesses and challenge or educate us
to live more personally and professionally fulfilling lives.
They are constantly present in our thoughts spiritually or physically. We walk with
them in the halls of our schools and the streets of Old Town. We see their
smiling faces on a tennis court, in a classroom, volunteering at local charities
and participating in school board meetings. You might see their eyes behind a
surgical mask in the operating room, see them
tutoring a child or celebrating a
therapeutic milestone with a client. We ride in tandem with them cycling in the
foothills or laugh with them on the green of a golf course. They foster hope and
inspiration in all of us.
A survivor in
YOUR life. You are welcome to create your own personal celebration!
Bring or join the survivor in your life for the day of activities. You
also have the opportunity to sponsor a survivor.
An
opportunity to honor the memory of someone who courageously faced breast
cancer and touched and influenced many.
Six individuals have been chosen as the 2008 celebrated survivors. They have touched the lives of the people helping to organize our first event. We experience the courage of these women each day and aspire to embrace a fraction of their determination and strength. In the future our goal is to expand to be inclusive of additional survivors representing a spectrum of recovery, demographics and financial necessity.
There are many successful not-for-profit fundraisers for breast cancer featuring triathlons, biathlons, walks. These charitable organizations raise funds used to contribute to the research, access to healthcare, needs-based assistance for traditional medical treatments and education on a larger scale. The Fun Fund is a small and personal event with an entirely different focus. This particular event is unique in its design to include all members of a support system and all levels of activity regardless of age, interest or health status. It is designed for a day of camaraderie and to raise funds to be distributed specifically to survivors. The funds will be used for treatment expenses, a much-deserved retreat, or for a recipient to donate to another survivor or organization they wish to support.
We are not currently a not-for-profit organization or designated event.
All net proceeds will be distributed to survivors. The people contributing time and efforts to this event are not financially compensated. Hard costs ONLY will be deducted from entry fees.
Your contributions are not tax deductible.
